Bhargav Barla (b. 1992) is a visual artist working between Visakhapatnam and Delhi, primarily through painting and photography. His practice centers on single-image storytelling that explores themes of memory, dreams, nostalgia, and the emotional depth of everyday life. Light plays a central role in his compositions, used not just for illumination but as a narrative and symbolic device. His images often blur the boundaries between reality and imagination, capturing liminal moments and spaces shaped by personal memory—especially twilight scenes and transitional environments. His ongoing series Nature Harbour reflects on fading small-town landscapes and oral histories, using ambient light to evoke a quiet, melancholic beauty. Influenced by Caravaggio, Rembrandt, Caspar David Friedrich, and photographers like Jeff Wall and Todd Hido, Barla draws from magical realism to construct his visual language. He holds multiple degrees in painting and performing arts and has exhibited widely, including at India Art Fair, Art Mumbai, and the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art.
Academics
BFA in Painting from Andhra University (2014)
MFA in Painting from Visva-Bharati University, Santiniketan (2016)
Master’s in Performing Art and Design from Shiv Nadar University (2019)
